Alleged serial rapist who dubbed himself ‘sex god’ got student drunk on pink gin before groping her, trial hears

A university student has told a jury how an alleged serial sex attacker got her drunk on pink gin and molested her.

The woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, claimed that 21-year-old student, Charles Goodwin put his hand down the back of her trousers and touched her genital area.

She told Liverpool Crown Court that he also pulled down her trousers and slapped her bottom twice.

The undergraduate student is currently on trial facing 12 offences involving four students, three of whom were based in Liverpool and one in Manchester.

Mr Goodwin, of Hilbre Street, Liverpool city centre, but formerly of Salford, denies all the offences, which include six rapes, sexual assaults, assault by penetration and attempting choking, between January 2020 and May last year.

A jury has heard that Mr Goodwin, who was on bail at the time of the final alleged attack, admits having sexual activity with the four young women – but claims it was consensual.

Prosecutor, Matthew Curtis, said: “The defendant did not care whether the complainants consented or not. In short, he got what he wanted with no care for them or the immediate consequences of his actions.”

The first two alleged victims have told the court of their experiences, with one claiming that she was raped after Mr Goodwin had picked her out to down shots during a “ring of fire” drinking game.

Mr Goodwin is also claimed to have told one victim he was a “sex god.”

Charles Goodwin is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court

A third student told jurors today (January 11) how she met Mr Goodwin, known as Charlie, during Freshers week, and described him as “loud, very outgoing and a bit intense.”

She claimed that he gave her his coat while she was sitting outside a university building with friends.

It is alleged he had brought a bag of spirits with him and gave her a Kahula to drink before giving her glasses of peach pink gin with lemonade.

“He just kept giving me drinks and coercing me to down them which I did,” she said.

The student said she started feeling dizzy after the third drink and after another one she could not stand properly and had to be helped by friends.

When she went back to the bench she said: “Charlie squeezed my leg under the table.”

The woman claimed that she and some friends went back to her flat where he poured her another drink, causing her to feel “really ill.”

“He put his hand down the back of my trousers and attempted to fiddle,” she said.

She told the court that Mr Goodwin leaned in to kiss her but then told her, ‘you are too drunk.’ She allegedly told him, ‘no I’m not, I’m better,’ and they kissed.

“He moved me to straddle him. He picked me up and put me on the counter,” she said.

“He put his hand down my joggers and underneath my underwear.”

The student said she twice told him to stop and he did and apologised.

“He then pulled his trousers down along with his underwear and grabbed my hand and put my hand on his penis,” she said.

She said she reacted after a second and pulled her hand away and walked back over to the sofa.

“He then pulled down my trousers and hit me on my arse twice pretty hard,” she added.

The woman told how she went back to the sofa and again put her head on his lap. She said she did not think much about it at the time as she was more drunk than would be normal for her.

She said they kissed but declined his offer to stay the night with her.

The next day she was badly hung over, was shaking, feeling dizzy and sick.

Later in the day she started thinking about what had happened and had a panic attack. She told friend she was not comfortable with what had happened and was advised to report it.

Goodwin denies two offences of sexual assault involving the woman.

The case continues.
