BBC Celebrity Antiques Road Trip: Eamonn Holmes’ first wife who’s now like a ‘sister’ to him

Celebrity Antiques Road Trip will hit our screens once again this evening with a showbiz-filled episode.

Tonight will see actress Victoria Smurfit and broadcaster Eamonn Holmes make the trip on BBC, as well as our favourite experts.

Apparently, there will be some incredible finds coming up this evening, including a model of the Santa Maria and a royal map of Surrey.

But how much do we know about Eamonn Holmes’ private life?

The Irish broadcaster has had a long and expansive career in journalism and TV, and is perhaps best known for his seven-year stint as co-host of This Morning with his wife Ruth Langford.

Eamonn and his wife Ruth celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary this year

Eamonn still presents the show with partner Ruth, but has cut down his presenting hours to host only during his children’s school holidays.

Eamonn and Ruth celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary together this year, but it started a long time before that – and it hasn’t always been plain sailing.

Prior to meeting Ruth, Eamonn was married to Gabriella Holmes. The pair met in 1976, and little is publicly known about their relationship.

They had three children together before separating in 1996, the Sun reports.

He said previously of their marriage: “Gabrielle will always be in my life because she’s the mother of three of my children.

“I am convinced now that there will always be a closeness between us, like a brother/sister thing.

“I will always be there for her and I assume she will always be there for me, and we will both always be there for the kids and they will never feel uneasy, say, sitting around a table with their mom and dad, talking about things.”

He wrote in his book that as he worked all week, he would feel like he was ‘intruding’ on Gabrielle and the kids on the weekend. Eventually, it led to the breakdown of their marriage.

Now, him and new wife Ruth are still happily married, and the two have appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox and Love Island: The Reunion.
