Let’s be honest, it’s not a great time to be Martin Fowler.
The former fruit and veg market seller has hit rock bottom after his wife Ruby Allen was arrested a couple of weeks ago.
Conniving Ruby was living on borrowed time after she told Jean Slater she framed daughter Stacey for causing her miscarriage which led to a one-year prison sentence.
In revenge, Jean told the police that Ruby was behind the cannabis farm leading to her arrest and exit from Albert Square.
As Martin refused to stick up for his wife, she’s now thrown him out of her house, cut access to her bank account, and has sacked him from his job at the nightclub, leaving him homeless with three kids and no money.
Despite Ruby now being pregnant with Martin’s baby, it seems she has washed her hands of him.
With nowhere to go and no immediate family around to help, Zack Hudson stepped in this week and suggested Martin and the kids move into Sharon Watts’ home together.
But where is Martin’s own family? Here we’ll explain all.
Martin first arrived in Walford in 1985 when his mum Pauline (Wendy Richard) gave birth to him.
Unfortunately, Pauline, who is also the aunt to Ian Beale, died on Christmas Day in 2006 of a brain haemorrhage in the snow, cold and alone underneath the Christmas tree.
Martin’s dad Arthur suffered a mental breakdown in prison whilst serving time for a crime he didn’t commit, and eventually died of a brain haemorrhage a few days after his release in 1996.
Who was Mark Fowler?
As an original EastEnders character Mark Fowler was the only son to Pauline and Arthur, before his younger brother Martin’s arrival.
Mark was initially a tearaway teen but after some time away from the square he returned as a more caring and mature man in 1990.
He was part of one of soap’s most prominent storylines as it was revealed he has HIV and followed his struggles with his diagnosis.
His parents became very hostile towards him when he confessed his illness, however the fruit and veg stall holder was determined to lead a happy life.
Then in 2003, Mark, played by Todd Carty, is informed his body is rejecting medication that would prolong his life. Refusing to allow his family to witness his death, Mark flees Walford to never be seen again.
In 2004, Martin is informed his older brother Mark has died from an AIDS-related form of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma
Who is Michelle Fowler?
Michelle is the only surviving member of Martin’s immediate family.
She is the unlucky-in-love daughter of Pauline and Arthur, and sister to Mark and Martin Fowler.
The single mum was originally played by Susan Tully when EastEnders launched in February 1985.
It was her lust for Den Watts, the father of best friend Sharon Watts, which brought baby Vicki Fowler onto the Square after she fell pregnant.
Michelle also enjoyed a romance with kind-hearted barman Lofty Holloway.

She left Walford in 1995 to live in America, however, Michelle (now played by Jenna Russell) made an epic comeback in 2016.
Reappearing on Christmas Day and was immediately consumed with drama after it was revealed she’d been having an affair with a 17-year-old boy who also turned up.
Two years later, she left Walford again to spend to Christmas 2018 with her daughter Vicki in Australia and is yet to make a reappearance.
Maybe now is a good time for Michelle to return to the square to help little distressed brother Martin?
