Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has heaped praise on Thomas Tuchel for getting the best out of players that had struggled under Frank Lampard.
The former Paris Saint-Germain boss arrived in west London just seven months ago and he has already made his mark on the team, guiding the Blues to their second-ever UEFA Champions League trophy following a historic win over Manchester City in May’s final.
Tuchel has successfully implemented his favoured 3-4-3 system at Stamford Bridge, a formation that had got the best out of a number of ageing Chelsea players, including the likes of wing-back Marcos Alonso and veteran defender Cesar Azpilicueta, both of which had seemingly entered the twilight of their careers under Lampard’s stewardship.
And Cascarino has claimed that the German coach is the perfect fit for the Blues, citing his incredible footballing brain as the reason for Chelsea’s recent success following their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“[Tuchel’s] a great fit for Chelsea,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “I think tactically you wouldn’t look any better than him in the Premier League.
“I think other managers have different qualities but he tactically is extraordinary. The way he manoeuvres his team, he meddles with his team slightly, but clearly improves players.

“[Christian] Pulisic played centre-forward yesterday, scored a goal and caused havoc. Alonso wasn’t seemingly wanted anymore at Chelsea. Ends up being a player for them and was offered as being part of the Lukaku deal, and they’ve kept him.
“I’ve seen him play so well for Chelsea and I thought he was finished at the football club. I thought Azpilicueta was finished at the football club and he played wing-back yesterday. Chelsea are a really good side.”
The Blues will be hoping they can make it two wins from two in the Premier League this season when they travel to London rivals Arsenal on Sunday, hoping to end their current run of form against the Gunners which has seen them lose each of their last three meetings.
