Live: Boris Johnson addresses nation on England’s winter Covid plan

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to make an announcement from Downing Street to address England’s Covid plans for the winter.

The measures were revealed by England’s Health Secretary Sajid Javid earlier today in Parliament.

Mr Javid says the Government has a Plan A and a Plan B to tackle the pandemic – Plan A is for the state we are in now, while Plan B will be brought in if the situation gets worse.

The rules will apply in England, with the devolved nations deciding what rules to apply.

Plan B would see mandating vaccine passports in some venues and forcing face masks to be mandatory by law once again in shops and on public transport.

People would be encouraged to work from home. And a lockdown is not ruled out – though it is an absolute last resort.

Mr Johnson will speak just hours after the loss of his mother, professional painter Charlotte Johnson Wahl, who did last night at the age of 79.
