Royal Family: Bizarre rule which means the Royals can never play Monopoly

The Royals are subject to lots of rules that they must abide by in order to keep the Queen happy.

Members of Britain’s most famous family are not allowed to take selfies with fans, and must follow a strict dress code. Heirs are also not allowed to fly together. These are all rules that don’t come as much of a surprise.

But they’re also apparently not allowed to play the nation’s favourite board game, Monopoly. So what’s that all about?

According to The Telegraph, the real estate board game can get too out of hand for Queen Elizabeth’s liking. In 2008, Prince Andrew visited the Leeds Building Society’s headquarters to commemorate its renovation.

When the Duke of York was presented with a Monopoly board, he revealed to those in attendance that it’s forbidden in the royal household because ‘it gets too vicious’.

It’s hard to imagine any of our beloved Royals flipping over the board in anger when they get sent to jail, but no one really knows what goes on behind closed palace doors.

The Duke didn’t elaborate any further or explain whether it’s acceptable to play when the head of the family isn’t present.

So, while no one seems to know the exact rule, it seems that Prince George won’t be arguing with his siblings around the Christmas dinner table over Park Lane and Mayfair.

Another rule that the Royals supposedly must follow is that they are not allowed to give autographs.

The BBC has also reported that the family is forbidden from eating shellfish when travelling the world for their royal duties.

Rare meat, foreign water, and even spicy dishes are all banned too in a bid to prevent royals getting an upset stomach while carrying out their duties.
