Royal Family: How Princess Beatrice’s baby daughter changes the line of succession

The birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter brings a new member into the Royal Family and in doing so changes the line of succession.

Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen’s granddaughter welcomed a six-pound two-ounce baby with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on September 18.

While they have not yet released the baby’s name we know that she will sit in 11th place in line for the throne.

This means those in the top 10 places will remain unchanged, while those below will all be moved down a place.

The new little royal will push down her auntie, Princess Eugenie, into 12th place, as well as Eugenie’s son, August, down into 13th.

Prince Edward, Viscount Severn, Lady Louise Windsor and Princess Anne also all see their position in the line of succession pushed back by one place.

Despite her high ranking in the line of succession, the new royal won’t have a princely title due to an obscure royal rule from the early 1900s.

Letters Patent by King George V revealed that only children of the coverage, the male-line grandchildren, and the Prince of Wales’s eldest son, were allowed to hold a princely title.

However, that doesn’t mean she will be without any royal title.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo’s father, Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi, explained: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.
