The London state school where Dawn French taught drama that 2 famous popstars attended

Dawn French found herself back in the headlines this week after it was announced that she would take over from Simon Cowell on ITV show Walk The Line.

It was welcome news for Dawn French fans, who perhaps haven’t seen so much of her since her Vicar of Dibley days.

But what many don’t know is that TV wasn’t her only career, and she used her drama talents for something different for a number of years.

In fact, in the decade before the Vicar of Dibley, Dawn was a drama teacher at a secondary school in North London.

Her drama lessons were a “riot”, according to the Independent , and she would make her students at Parliament Hill School get down on one knee and beg her to teach them.

They were even allowed to call her by her first name, as opposed to ‘Ms French’.

But this isn’t the only quirk of the school in question, which is tucked in just next to Hampstead Heath, home to the infamous ladies’ ponds.

Parliament Hill is a girls’ secondary state school in Camden with about 1,300 students enrolled.

It shares a sixth form with other local schools in the borough, Acland Burghley, William Ellis and La Sainte Union (named aptly LaSwap) – and its alumni list features a few very famous faces.

Pop singer Dua Lipa was a student at the school in the late 2000s, after moving to London from Kosovo.

Dua is the star behind the hit songs New Rules, One Kiss and Levitating, and is currently dating model Anwar Hadid. Her reported net worth is around £36 million.

But that isn’t the only famous face to come out of Parliament Hill.

Actor Kirby Howell-Baptiste is another former student of the school, and has appeared in Killing Eve and Holby City.

And the joint sixth form is no different. LaSwap sixth form was the school of another famous singer, rapper and songwriter.

Ms. Dynamite, known for her hit ‘Ms. Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’, attended Acland Burghley secondary school before the joint sixth form.

Other notable alumni of Parliament Hill are football manager Emma Hayes and BBC journalist Laura Trevelyan.
