Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku laughed off the prospect of joining Arsenal after his dream debut for the Blues against the Gunners.
The Belgian striker, who recently became the club’s record signing in a £97m deal from Inter, was selected from the start at the Emirates Stadium to the delight of the majority of Chelsea supporters.
His first outing of his second stint at Stamford Bridge was certainly a much-anticipated one andthe 28-year-old certainly did not disappoint.
Just 15 minutes into the match, he finally scored his first goal for the club as he powered home Reece James’ cross from close range.
He then played a key role as the full-back himself got on the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 victory for Thomas Tuchel’s men in north London. Away from his direct contributions though, the Belgian turned in a hugely impressive performance, being a constant thorn in the side of the Gunners.
The news will of course be hailed by Chelsea supporters who appear to have finally been given the dominant centre-forward that they have been craving since the departure of Diego Costa.
However, it will be another sour note for Arsenal having not only seen the Belgian score but having turned in another uninspiring attacking showing of their own.
Mikel Arteta’s men have failed to score in each of their opening two Premier League games, a record that has seen them lose their first two league fixtures without finding the net in their 118-year history as a league club.
Their struggles in attack were somewhat magnified on Sunday with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only making his return to action with a brief cameo, whilst fellow strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah continue to have uncertain futures at the Emirates Stadium.
